Lisa Celeste Stroud, aka Simone, pays tribute to her famous late mother, jazz singer Nina Simone, at 8 p.m. tonight at Whitaker Center’s Sunoco Performance Theater.

Simone and Her Big Band offer tunes with a deep understanding of music and big sound.

Simone, a singer, songwriter and performer whose ability to transcend genres echoes the tradition of her mother, musical icon and pioneer Dr. Nina Simone. Simone has developed an exciting and diverse repertoire of pop, soul, jazz, rock and funk.
